Dear PETA Theater Team,
Good day. I hope this message finds you well.
I am submitting my original Filipino zarzuela Pamana ng Lahi for your 2026 production lineup. This is a two-act musical set in 1881 in La Castellana, Negros. The music is rondalla-based with chorus and brass, and the story centers on love, family, conscience, and public honesty.
Refrain: “Bilang, Sukat, Tapat.” A simple call for truth and accountability.
Short Summary
Two respected families in La Castellana compete for power. A bridge project is rushed for politics and prestige. Ramon Villanueva and Yolanda De la Cruz fall in love in secret, torn between loyalty and truth. During the town fiesta, the bridge collapses, taking the lovers and the people’s pride with it. The town must choose its legacy of silence or conscience.
Why PETA and Why Now
The story resonates with today’s Philippine realities. With ongoing revelations of corruption and a renewed public demand for accountability, staging Pamana ng Lahi now offers meaningful social impact. The piece supports PETA’s mission to educate, inspire, and move audiences through theater and culture, inviting dialogue about integrity and civic responsibility.
